If you are from one of the following countries you can use the Australian public health system (called Medicare). The countries are: United Kingdom, Sweden, the Netherlands, Finland, Norway, Malta and Italy Simply take your passport to a Medicare office, fill out the relevant forms and you’ll get a temporary Medicare card. If you need a doctor try to find on that does bulk billing and you will not have to pay when you show your card. If you do go to a doctor where you have to pay you can claim a portion of the cost of the treatment back at a Medicare office on production of your card.
