There are some great rental websites where you can search on location and weekly rents.

Have a look at www.domain.com.au and www.realestate.com.au the have both rental and share accommodation. Also worth looking at is www.gumtree.com.au

Rentals are usually expressed in weekly rates and share accommodation usually has the cost of bills included in the price.

Most landlords will want to take a bond from you. The maximum rental bond that can be asked for is:

  • 4 weeks rent, for unfurnished premises, or
  • 6 weeks rent, for fully furnished premises with a rent of $250 or less per week, or
  • Unlimited, for fully furnished premises with a rent of more than $250 per week

During the tenancy, the bond is held by the Rental Bond Board and accumulates interest. At the end of the tenancy, after the final inspection, a Claim for Refund of Bond Money form should be filled out by the landlord or agent and given to the tenant to sign. If everything is in order you should get the full refund, any damage to the property will be deducted from the amount. Click here for more info
